Nigel J Roberts Limited

About Us

Nigel J Roberts Limited was formed in May 2011 to provide transport planning support to a wide range of customers in the North West of England and North Wales. The company is led by Nigel Roberts, a Chartered Engineer and Transport Planner with over 25 years’ experience managing transport studies and development proposals in both the public and private sectors. He has worked with Cheshire County Council, Parkman, Hyder, Capita and Gifford before setting up this company.

Nigel has recently led transport studies in North Wales considering town centre accessibility, traffic management and safety in Llanrwst and a sustainable transport area study for Món a Menai in Gwynedd. This latter study included cycling and walking strategies, public transport operational assessment, travel surveys and consultation, parking policy considerations, option testing and scheme appraisal.

He has devised transport policies and strategies for the Local Plans of Crewe, Vale Royal, Chester and Ellesmere Port and was a key contributor to the Cheshire Local Transport Plans.  Nigel has assessed transport elements of Local Development Plans in Chester and Ellesmere Port and Area Action Plans in Lancashire.

Nigel has played a key role in engaging the public during consultation exercises explaining issues regarding changes in traffic associated with scheme proposals and has presented traffic and economic evidence at several Public Inquiries including, recently, the A477 St. Clears to Red Roses Improvement in Carmarthenshire.

Nigel has carried out several transport assessments for major highway and public transport schemes such as Cork Northern Relief Road, East Lancashire Rapid Transit, A41 No Man’s Heath Bypass, Chester Western Relief Road, A34 Alderley Edge Bypass, M56 junction 7 improvements, A483 Welshpool and Newtown town centre studies and A477 St. Clears to Red Roses Improvement.

All these major studies involved framework assessments using NATA, WebTAG or WelTAG and procedures and processes as outlined in DMRB.  Key to all studies were detailed traffic data collection (Roadside Interviews, MCC’s, ATC’s, speed surveys), analysis, traffic modelling (SATURN, TRIPS/CUBE, Paramics, VISSIM), traffic forecasting,  accident analysis, economic evaluation using COBA/TUBA and QUADRO and the linking of traffic data to environmental assessments.
